|Description=The risk of flooding can not be prevented entirely, but we can manage the risks of flooding. The likelihood of flooding can be reduced through the management of land and river systems; in particular working with natural processes can reduce the risk of flooding in built up areas by flooding wetlands or the natural floodplain at times of high rainfall. You can also build and maintaining flood and coastal defences; raising the awareness of flood risk and encouraging people to take action to protect themselves and their property. The damage floods can do can also be controlled through effective control of development, providing flood warnings and working with emergency responders to help people who are at risk.<br />
